At the end of a long day, I just want to take off my makeup. Using a simple wipe to remove my makeup doesn’t leave me satisfied. I wear a full face of products and a wipe is not going to get deep into my skin. I take my time when cleansing my face and I typically do a double cleanse routine. For most people, this may be too time consuming, but I feel a skincare cleansing method determines your skin’s overall appearance. I am a big fan of using oil based cleansers in my first cleanse. I was so excited when Influenster & Dermalogica sent me the Dermalogica PreCleanse Balm to test & review along with a mini size special cleansing gel.

This is my first time using Dermalogica and I am very excited. This brand is highly recommended by many skincare professionals. They are cruelty free, paraben free, and alcohol free. That is bonus in my book as I want to get away from all the bad ingredients if possible.
It comes in a easy to use squeeze tube, so no double dipping and keeps the product hygienic. Has a light medicated scent. Balm has a soft solid texture which feels creamy upon contact with dry skin. I only need a almond size blob of product. I can use this directly on my hands or on the silicone mitt for a deep cleanse. The mitt bristles help massage the product evenly into skin. The Precleanse balm melts immediately into an oil consistency as I massage over my face. It felt slightly heavy on my skin but once activated by water it emulsifies into a nice milky liquid. This was gently enough to use over my eyes without any irritation. After rinsing my face I did not feel greasy and it surprisingly did a pretty good job of removing a full face of makeup. I could stop here, but to feel extra squeaky clean I will do second cleanse with the Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel that came in the box.
The mini size Special Cleansing Gel is the second step of the double cleansing routine. After using the PreCleanse Balm, I apply this to dampen face to remove any residual makeup & impurities. This soap free gel is light weight and easy to massage on skin. It has very little lather and felt very soothing as a second cleanse. A little bit of product goes a long ways considering my face is mostly bare. Left skin feeling soft without feeling stripped of moisture. I did try using the gel as a first cleanse but I don’t think it did a very good job of loosing up or removing all of my makeup, but as a second cleanse it worked great.
Overall, both the PreCleanse Balm and the Cleansing Gel were very gentle on my sensitive skin, non irritating around the eyes, and skin felt very clean without feeling dry. These were pretty simple no frill cleansers that got the job done. It would be nice to see the products having additional skincare benefits.
Thank you Dermalogica and Influenster for sending me these complimentary for testing and review. All opinions are my own.
